A day in the life…DAHLIA Style

​“My heart is full.” “I’m amazed.” Those were the words that DAHLIA board member, Marcy Hall, used to describe her day leading our film crew as they shadowed our Visions’ resident, Angelica, going about her day. 

“I never realized just how much effort it takes to just get her ready and out of the house.” Marcy estimated that at least 4 staff members were involved in making sure she was prepped to go about her day. “And she has a lot of opinions and offers reminders and suggestions to the staff. It’s pretty awesome.”

Angelica, herself, is pretty awesome. Paralyzed since the age of 3, she has never let her physical condition slow her down. She’s an artist, an entrepreneur, an advocate, an avid concert goer, and she even volunteers, reading to children at the Goddard School in Redmond.

That was where our crew got to see Angelica really shine. “The kids were fascinated by her. They just sat in rapt attention.” Hall said.

Marcy was also so impressed by the warmth of the DAHLIA staff. “Everyone was smiling and clearly love their job and helping our residents.” Few people get to see DAHLIA operate that up close and personal and Marcy said she learned so much in those few hours. “Do you know what it takes to get her strapped into the van? It’s a major undertaking! I had no idea.”

She came away from her day inspired and thankful. The video will be released later this spring so all of you will be able to get a glimpse of the challenges and the incredible heart that goes into a day in the life at DAHLIA.
